The Immortals

The Immortals In the future, in the middle of an energy crisis, an immortality treatment has been discovered, which prevents aging. However, people can still die of other causes. World leaders and influental people live to 150/200 years old, then their brains begin to physically deteriorate. They inject nanomachines to repair the damage. However, the nanomachines develop into a neural network and become sentinent, taking over their minds slowly over time. Instead of the leaders consantly bickering, they all unite, and at first it seems like a new golden age for humanity. A small group realizes what's happening and tries to stop them, but they fail. Soon, the nanomachines are released into the atmosphere and infect the vast majority of humanity. Humanity becomes a hivemind. In order to "Solve" the energy crisis, mass numbers of people begin exterimanting themselves voluntarily.
